I just received a note from the NEWS trustees that they are going to send out the NEWSletter to all members of the guild via Email. Could you all please check the member list to make sure that your email is accurate. Just send me a note at Istamp15@aol.com to let me know if it is correct or needs to be changed. Also, it looks like we will need addresses and phone numbers for all members for the NEWS brochures to be sent. We don’t need them right now but we should be working on getting a full list together. I know Olivia and Susan who are our Shepherdesses were working on this.
Our meeting is tomorrow (Thursday October 27) from 7 to 9 pm
This month’s speaker is Deb Watson and she will be discussing/demonstrating Backstrap Weaving.
Up for business discussion is NOBO Handweavers Fibershed project, updates on our NOBO Handweavers flyer, plans for our Holiday meeting …
Contact Lady NOBO if you have anything you would like to discuss during our Business Meeting and she will add it to our agenda.
Please bring something for Show & Share. Sometimes we run out of time but I know we all enjoy seeing what one another and their loom (or wheel or both) has been up to.
The Magic Happens class offers a sleight of hand — the weaving of a scarf with differential shrinkage using alpaca/wool and bamboo. The method is known as Cram and Space. The result is a scarf with enchantingly framed felted squares throughout! Go to http://www.aloomwithaview.com/a-loom-with-a-view/classes.html for more information.
Instructor: Margaret Russell
Dates: Tues. Nov 15, Wed. Nov 16, Tues. Nov 22, Tues. Nov 29 and Wed. Nov 30
6:00-8:30PM
Space is limited.
In commenting on my nettle post, Ted made the analogy of nettles being a UK weed in the same vein as US kudzu. Then, as is my nature, I started to wonder if kudzu can be made into fiber.
It can!

I’ve also discovered that dogbane is a fiber plant (aka Indian Hemp) and can be harvested in the winter:
The Roots School, who produced this video, is offering a two day workshop this December that’s very tempting:

Thanks to our Fibershed project, I feel like I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole!
And here I was feeling bad that we don’t have cotton growing in our area…
Anyone interested in a small mending job? This lovely alpaca blanket has a 3 inch tear and the owner would like to find someone who can needle weave a repair. Doesn’t look too difficult to me. If you are interested in taking this on, feel free to contact Cheryl at cherylannmcl@yahoo.com to discuss the details.
