Recipe for Parmesan-Scallion Swirls

Published by under General

Here’s the recipe for the snack I brought the other night. It was found at:

http://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/parmesan-scallion-pastry-pinwheels-00000000044922/

Makes about 20, they say it serves 8
Ingredients:

* 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (from a 17.25-ounce box), thawed about 45 minutes
* 1 large egg, beaten
* 3 scallions, thinly sliced
* 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan (1 1⁄2 ounces)
* kosher salt and black pepper

Directions

1. Heat oven to 400° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
2. Unfold the pastry and brush with the egg. Sprinkle with the scallions, ¼ cup of the Parmesan, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon pepper. Roll tightly into a log. Freeze until firm but still sliceable, about 20 minutes.
3. Slice the log into ¼-inch-thick rounds and place on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of Parmesan and bake until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature. Can be reheated.

Pre-jurist found

Published by under General

Eileen Fitzgerald was able to find a most accomplished weaver to pre-jury any items intended for NEWS exhibits.
That’s the first step, along with completely filling out the entry forms, for anyone wishing to enter one of the NEWS shows.

After the pre-jurying has determined if an item should continue to NEWS, it’ll be juried by judges chosen by NEWS. They will return comments with their decision. This is a wonderful opportunity for evaluating our areas of strength as well as areas needing improvement.

Please consider entering items. This is NOBO’s first
time as NEWS members and we want to represent. Please bring any entries, along with the completed paperwork, to our May meeting.

I’m going to cast a fresh eye upon my woven goodies and enter something. What the heck, right?!

Tapestry show thru Sunday

Published by under General

I stand corrected from what I said last night. The ATHM Tapestry show goes all this weekend, through Sunday, May 1st.

Sue Jones and I went today. It is FABULOUS!

Cancel your weekend plans! Do not miss this!

I’m serious. If you like tapestry, and you haven’t been, you’re missing a rare opportunity. The museum’s site is athm.org. They sent this blurb

today:

LAST CHANCE! American Tapestry Biennial 8
Through May 1

This special exhibit, organized by the American Tapestry Alliance,

features 64 tapestries created by 54 artists from 12 countries. The selected pieces represent a variety of sizes, colors, and styles. American Tapestry Biennial 8 was juried by Rebecca Stevens, Consulting Curator at the Textile Museum in Washington, DC

It is well worth the drive from up here!

Old craft magazine giveaway

Published by under General

I was cleaning my attic today, and finally opened an old box of craft

magazines. They’re from the 1980′s-1990′s. If you would like any of these,

please let me know and I’ll bring them Thursday. After that, they’re

going in the recycling bin. Here are the titles:

Needle and Thread

Needlecraft for Today

Threads

Country Handcrafts

I haven’t looked through any of them. Occasionally the old Threads magazines have weaving projects too…

Cheers,

Patricia

When disaster strikes

Published by under General

I haven’t managed to do much active weaving (as opposed to the dream weaving that I seem to do a lot of!) since Benjamin came along, but I think I finally found a bit of a groove over the past month. I grab a few minutes here and a few minutes there, and before you know it, something is accomplished.

With the deadline looming for my first post-maternity leave “Yearning to Weave” column, I had in my hands what I thought was a pretty cool project. I tossed it into the washing machine on the delicate cycle, watched for a few minutes to make sure everything looked OK, and went on with my day while the cycle continued. I should have stayed just a bit longer. My rya knot rug concoction decided to burst free from its wefty confines. I told my mother that this was one of those moments where I realized that I have matured quite a bit. I muttered a mild mannered, “crap.” and proceeded to salvage what I could. The result? A square rug instead of a rectangle. And for your viewing pleasure, the mess I pulled out of the washing machine, and a gratuitous shot of Baby NOBO on the finished item.
