It’s A Gute Life

Published by under General

Would you like to see more of the Gute sheep?  Visit “FiberCam” on www.wildfibersmagazine.com and take a short trip to the tiny island of Fårö, Sweden by clicking on “Far Away Sheep”.  If you don’t know about the Gute, still take the journey, but then be sure to grab the current issue of Wild Fibers to read more about this legendary breed from Sweden.

From the Dust Jacket

Published by under Library

Posts relating to library items from Patricia:

Hi, everyone, great meeting last night!

I didn’t get a chance to discuss books, fearing lack of time. I have been given
a box of weaving/spinning/felting books from Polly, Lorna’s Mom. She is willing
to both sell some and donate some of them to the library.

Given our discussion on space, we probably don’t want to put all of them in the
library. There is very little overlap with our library – only 3-4 books. The majority
are weaving books, but sort of non-mainstream ones, IMHO.

I’ve chosen a few that I think really belong in our library:

Rag Rug Handbook – Janet Meany and Paula Pfaff
Handwoven Design Collection #8 – Just Rags
A Weaver’s Book of 8 Shaft Patterns – Carol Strickler
In Sheep’s Clothing – Nola Fournier and Jane Fournier (spinning)

I imagine none of you will object to adding the first 3 to the library. We touched
on considering taking non-weaving books out of the library due to space limitations,
so the last one is a “maybe”, IMHO. But it looks like a spinning classic.

I don’t really want to take the time to list the other 20 or so books and booklets.

Any suggestions as to how we decide which ones should go in the library?
Perhaps at the next meeting, a volunteer (Leah? our next librarian?) could
review them and add any others they felt were valuable to the “library
donation” pile, and then I’ll sell the rest on Polly’s behalf?

Should NOBO sponsor a NEWS Award?

Published by under General,Guild Business

In case you missed the meeting last night (it was loads of fun as usual), we talked briefly about NOBO sponsoring an award at NEWS. Kathie, our NEWS rep has previously posted the details on our website.  Please refer to that post and note the deadline of June 1st. If you have the resource guide from NEWS 2009, the awards that were offered last time are listed on page 13.  One suggestion was to give an award for the best use of fleece from endangered or rare breed sheep. This could be something for the fashion show OR gallery show. It was suggested that $50.00 might be appropriate. Please log in to express your views on whether you think this is a good idea. We should probably decide during the April meeting. Thanks.

Thursday’s NOBO Meeting

Published by under General

Greetings~
Weaving Wearables is our program for this Thursday’s meeting, however we will spend a good amount of time on court positions. Lady Nobo has rearranged our time schedule to allow for this. Show and Share will take place if there is enough time left at the end of the meeting.
Everyone, we really need people to step up and fill positions for the
upcoming guild year so our guild can continue. Lady Nobo will have a sign-up sheet that will be circulated during the meeting. There are still positions to be filled.
We will go with January’s Serf Society sign-ups – Ellen Kaminski,
Melissa Hankens, and Sandra Gent. We shall use February’s sign-ups
for March since no one signed on for that month.
See you on Thursday
Gail

The Spring issue of Wild Fibers is out!  If you are a subscriber, keep watch for the mail.  If you aren’t a subscriber, that’s bad news.  But wait, there is some good news.  A Loom with a View has issues ready with your name on one of them.  Just wait until you see the cover!  And as always, that is only the beginning of all Wild Fibers has in store for you.
