We’re talking about shuttles, bobbins, pirns, winders, fringe twisters, raddles, warping boards, warping pegs, Wolf strollers, tool trays, etc. The sale applies to in-stock merchandise only and excludes looms and floor stands. NOBO’s Fifth Anniversary

Published by under General

Although this won’t be happening for a couple of years or so, we are planning ahead!

Those of you who attended our July meeting are aware that the program centered around tips and tricks pertaining to weaving. It was suggested that we collect these, along with others which may surface from time to time, and assemble them in book form to be made available to the weaving community as part of our fifth anniversary celebration.

With that thought in mind, I am asking each of you send me information concerning non-traditional tools, tricks, and/or methods you have found useful when preparing to weave, during the weaving process, or when finishing the piece. For example, a couple of tips mentioned during our meeting involved the use of binder clips and pipe cleaners.

This request goes out to all of you – even if your handy hint was mentioned during the meeting, please send it to me, along with any others which come to mind.

I will remind you of this periodically – but, please, do start now!

Many thanks.

Outside Activities

Published by under General

As mentioned during the July meeting, I would like each of you who have taken part in an “outside” weaving activity since the inception of NOBO to please contact me with the details pertaining to same, so that we can have a documented record of these events.

For example, did you participate in the Rowley Library Exhibit or the one in Haverhill? Or perhaps attend Convergence, and/or participate in the Winter Fuzz Fest in Exeter, or last year’s Fiber Revival at SPL?

If you would, please, furnish me with dates, locations, and pieces involved, where applicable, along with anything else which may be of interest.

The members of NOBO are an active group, and I truly feel it is important to document these activities.

Many thanks.

NOBO Meeting Thursday July 22nd

Published by under General

Hello Weavers,

As you know Sue Duncan has returned from India and was our scheduled speaker for Thursday’s meeting. Unfortunately, Sue is under the weather and her talk on Weaving in India and Yoga for Weavers will have to be rescheduled. We thought we would replace her talk and demo with Tips and Tricks so please come prepared with your niftiest of tips, tricks, tools, etc. to share with all of us. This hot weather makes us thirsty for knowledge and a cold drink!

Looking for a good book or magazine? Go to the NOBO website and see what’s available in our ever growing fabulous library. We are very fortunate to have someone like Joan B. as the caretaker of our documents – she is an incredible resource and inspiration to all of us.

Don’t forget washed samples for Betsy (please) and any weaving projects to share with the group.

A reminder our Serf Society (clean up committee) for the month – Ted, Sandra, and Oliva

See you Thursday Evening

Sincerely,

The Town Crier

From the Dust Jacket

Published by under Library

July 18, 2010:

As you will recall, Lady NOBO invited us to bring our favorite weaving-related book to discuss at the June meeting. The book which Eileen brought and subsequently donated to our library is entitled “Barbara Eckhardt: Poetic Space.”

This is not exactly a book, but rather a catalogue documenting Ms. Eckhardt’s work, as curated by Nancy A. Corwin for an exhibit at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, in 1998. It has been said that Ms. Eckhardt was on the cutting edge of weaving, and this catalogue certainly attests to that. The wall hangings featured are multi-layered combinations of weaving techniques, inlay and embroidery.

What is just as compelling, I believe, is the story of Ms. Eckhardt’s life. Though unfortunately cut short, what she accomplished in her lifetime is truly an inspiration.

As a nice coincidence, the bibliography portion of this catalogue mentions articles in three back issues of SS&D which we are fortunate to have and which make a valuable accompaniment to the catalogue. They will be available at the meeting this week to be borrowed as a unit.
