It seems that the spam bots are out in full force now that the Holidays are over.
As moderator, I going to temporarily close commenting on the NOBO website. It’s my hopes that the spammers/bots will get bored and move on. This is just temporary, and my apologies for the need to do this.
What are your thoughts on having comments open only registered members instead of anyone/anything that happens to find the site? (Comments will be left open on this post for a short time.)

For anyone fortunate enough to be off on Monday, January 18, 2010, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston has free admission!
Of particular note is the event listed as Woven Traditions in the Riley Seminar Room: Kente is traditional woven fabric from Africa, used during special occasions. Design and weave a kente cloth using your favorite colors. Having worked with Kente textiles in the 80′s and early 90′s, this is of personal interest.
Unfortunately, I’ll be working, but if you’re in the Fenway area of Boston, free admission and some interesting events are worth thinking about.
And, as always, all programs are wheelchair
accessible.

“I can really claim a variety of experience, from art school in Paris, to decoding secret messages in a wild spot in Mexico, to cooking with llama dung on a mud stove in high Bolivia, to escorting homicidal insane men on a country walk, to – oh, well, fairly unusual bits of adventure……”
A quote attributed to Mary Meigs Atwater, in a biographical work entitled “Weaving a Life,” compiled by Mary Jo Reiter. Ms. Reiter goes on to say that if Mary Meigs Atwater had never thrown a shuttle, her life would have been fascinating. But throw a shuttle she did – and very well at that – along with creating The Shuttle-Craft Guild and Weaving Studio.
This book is in our library, along with two books authored by Mary Meigs Atwater. All good reads. I’ll bring them to the next NOBO meeting with the thought that perhaps someone will want to take one or more of them home.

The NOBO Handweavers display window has been redressed for the New Year, at least for the meanwhile. I have put together a display featuring cotton and would like to invite anyone and everyone to add some of their own handwoven cotton pieces. Please bring along anything you might like to place in the display window to our next meeting.

A Loom with a View is offering “Open Studio for Weavers” in the New Year! These are 2 hour drop-in sessions, Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30pm, and the cost is $20 per session. We will start with one a month thru March. If well attended, we will add another session, so we could have two every month starting in April. It is up to you!
Open Studio is a great opportunity if you have questions regarding a piece you are weaving, need help reading a draft or winding a warp, would like to sit and weave among friends (bring in your loom!) or anything else weaving-related that you might like a little assistance with. Open Studio is not a class but a time for you to get some guidance from Betsy or myself or even other weavers!
We do ask, when possible, to give A Loom with a View a call to let us know you will be “dropping in”.
Jan 19, Feb 16, and Mar 16 are the scheduled dates for the first Open Studios. Come join us!
The Jan 19th session will offer a warp winding demo from 6:30 – 7pm.
