The following court positions remain open and NEED to be filled –

Ladies/Lords of the Draft   (3 positions, all 3 open – program planning)

Town Crier   (1 open position – announcements including monthly guild meetings posted on website and through email blasts)

Shepherdess/Shepherd   (2 positions, 1 filled, 1 open – membership)

Organizing Chancellor   (2 positions, 1 filled, 1 open – events coordinator)

Please come forth and fill a position for our new guild year that will begin April 2012 and continue through March 2013.  We need six members to step up.  All positions are extremely important for our guild to run.  As you can see right now, there are no Program Planners, and that means no programs if these positions do not get filled.  It is not necessary to be a seasoned weaver to hold any of these positions.  We have grown NOBO Handweavers into quite a guild and certainly have inspired one another as weavers and friends each and every meeting.

If you have any questions about a position, don’t hesitate to contact me. You could also contact the current member in that position as well (all positions/members/contact info listed in the “Court” section of the website).  Thank you!

The NEW NOBO Logo Shop

Published by under Guild Business

Great news!

We’ve got the NOBO Handweavers’ Logo Shop set up as a not-for-profit shop! (It doesn’t require anyone’s personal info or social security info, either.) It is registered and set up under nobohandweavers.com and has LOTS of new and fun products.

Check it out and have a look. http://www.cafepress.com/NOBOLOGO

And, as always, it’s got a tab link at the top of any page on the website.

Happy 3rd Photos and more

Published by under Guild Business

With the combined effort of Ted, Gail, and Lady NOBO, there are photos of our April anniversary meeting in our Galleries section. Take a few moments to revisit (or visit) the celebration.  I invite everyone to share a highlight or two of the past year on this post.  What has happened as a result of our 2010/2011 guild year that is specifically meaningful to you as a weaver?

For me, it is experiencing the ever growing energy of NOBO.  Weavers packed together once a month in A Loom with a View, bursting with news, experiences, ideas, and woven pieces.   However this year, I now see members in two very significant ways.  First as a group that strongly supports and always (!) encourages one another in the fiber field.  Second, and what is equally as exciting, is to see our newer weavers alongside seasoned weavers in identifying, pursuing, and fulfilling their very own weaving interests.  Fantastic!

Get Ready to Party!

Published by under Guild Business

Thank you to everyone who was able to make our March guild meeting. Between Kathie and Ted, we have comprehensive notes for our minutes.  A fantastic collaborative effort!  These will allow review for those who were in attendance and an inclusive “catch up” for members unable to attend. When time allows, please take some time to read through them once they have been posted.

After all the arm-twisting and teeth pulling, we truly have an amazing “Court” for our next guild year.  Entering our fourth year (!) as NOBO Handweavers Guild, we have and continue to accomplish wonders in our part of the weaving world.  Little did Betsy and I know that in April of 2008 (though we really, really hoped), our small but very devoted gathering would grow into the NOBO of today.  This is my lead in to express sincere appreciation for every member of our guild and to reemphasize how important and meaningful each member’s involvement is and continues to be.  One’s participation may come in the form of a titled position, a regular Show and Share contributor, emailing Lady NOBO fascinating articles/ideas for Textile Tales, supporting another weaver and their work, and the list goes on.  These varied forms of involvement are all highly valued and necessary for our guild to continue with the extremely enjoyable and successful results we have experienced so far.  NOBO Handweavers is deserving of a grand 3rd birthday celebration!

Court Positions

Published by under Guild Business

The NOBO Handweavers guild needs a couple positions filled to complete our Court!  Please consider the following two positions – Organizing Chancellor and Lady/Lord of the Lens Scribe.

The Organizing Chancellor is a shared position and one member has come forth to fill part of this position.  This role is one in which the member would oversee the guild’s involvement in outside fiber events.  For example, Fiber Revival.  You would be responsible (in a shared way) to make sure NOBO is represented during this event.  It might include signing on weavers to demonstrate weaving, having members available to promote our guild by offering our printed guild info, answering questions, encouraging the attendance to a first time meeting, find the weavers that might be out there that don’t know about NOBO Handweavers ….  It is not up to you to personally to do all these activities but to make sure there are members committed to do so.  It really does come down to Fiber Revival (August 2011) at this time.  NEWS is already overseen by the NEWS reps, however the two members sharing this position could make themselves available to assist REPS as needed or even overseeing our guild table display.  As I said during our meeting, these positions have basic responsibilities but are also open to you putting your mark on them if you like.  There certainly could be some fiber event that our participation would benefit the guild and others interested in seeing and learning about what weaving is all about.  As an Organizing Chancellor, you could definitely present something like this to the guild and request members involvement.

Lady/Lord of the Lens Scribe – Kirsten is our Lady of the Lens. NOBO needs someone who would work with Kirsten and actually post her photos on the site.  Also, the “Lens Scribe” would be willing to aid members in posting their own photos of weavings/looms should they need that guidance.  Our “Gallery” is pretty lean and certainly does not reflect all that our members accomplish and all that goes on during meetings.  The Gallery is an opportunity for photo documentation of what is not only shown during meetings but equally as important, what occurs with members and their looms in between meetings.  It is always such a thrill to see finished pieces during Show and Show.  It is also equally as exciting but additionally educational to be able to see pieces in various stages on members looms.

Sincerely think about filling one of these positions.  Overall, these are not independent positions.  Really none of the Court positions are.  We have done very well in growing our guild (3rd birthday celebration in April!!).  But in its growth, needs are identified, and members must come together to insure the continuance of something I am sure we all would hate to lose.  Everyone has something to offer.  This is the important time for me to interject and recognize (and understand) that not every member will fill a position.  That does not make for less of a member.  Strengths within our group is in all forms.  It isn’t just seen while a member is associated with a certain Court position.  Participation has come in many ways.  We are all responsible for the success of the guild and the reason it has been successful is because a truly sensational group of fiber people have come forth to make it so.  I really enjoy seeing the support that is offered for one and all during meetings and the inspiration that is felt long after a meeting has ended.  It takes committed people to make this happen and from what I easily see, we are quite the committed group!
