Join Ardis Cameron as she explores the strike of 1912 and why it remains meaningful in today’s world. Based on her book, Radicals of the Worst Sort, Cameron will focus on the actions of the city’s women, their place in and out of history, and why the vision of “Bread and Roses” can help labor’s comeback. This lecture will take place at NECC’s Louise Haffner Fournier Education Center at 78 Amesbury Street in Lawrence, from 2-4:00 pm on Sunday Feb 12
Ardis Cameron is an author, director and professor of American and New England Studies at the University of Southern Maine.

I thought I would share a few articles you might find interesting after last night’s wonderful presentation by Barbara Herbster. All are from Weavezine. The first was written by Tien Chiu, one of the founders of Weavolution, and it’s called Plain Weave Variations. The second is by Bonnie Tarses and is Weaving with Unknitted Cashmere. You may recall the lavender sachet Barbara showed us which was woven by Bonnie using reclaimed cashmere. And here is a link if you would like to learn how to weave your own spa washcloths like the two that Phyllis shared. There are so many wonderful articles (and podcasts!) on Weavezine, and all of the projects are free. Check it out if you haven’t already.

I can’t figure out how to attach the workshop description. So please either email me for it, or go to weaversguildofboston.org to learn more. Look under

Guest Speaker Barbara Herbster (www.shuttlesong.com)
NOBO meeting Thursday January 26th 7pm
From Barbara Herbster:
If only I had one more color, one more shaft, one more
treadle… Well for once you will be completely satisfied with 4
shafts making tabby fabric. Some of the most interesting and
beautiful fabrics created have been in tabby structure. Think for a
minute about what basic elements can change to make tabby an
interesting fabric. Humm, there are quite a few! Now think what
extra elements can be added to tabby to make a more interesting and
complex textile. Quite a few more ideas come to mind? Come and
share ideas and I will share mine. I will come with a large pile of
my textiles and other examples.
Bring one beautiful example/picture of unusual, or not so unusual.
use of tabby with you to share. This can be hand woven or commercial
fabric or a picture.
