The Wedding Alpaca

Published by at 10:04 AM under General

I started washing the wedding alpaca this week. I took some leftover tulle from my wedding veil and whipped up a little washing pocket type thing. This way I can slip in a group of locks all nice and orderly like, pin down the ends and wash away. This is Tuxedo – probably about 2/3 of his total fleece. It’s now drying, and next week I’m going to continue the washing and start carding. My goal is to have all four bags of fleece-y goodness washed and carded by the end of August. September will be spinning time, though I hope to start before then. Realistic goals, right?

Fantastic! I love how you used your extra tulle from you wedding veil to design a way to wash your wedding alpaca. You should market this Melissa. Seems so much more manageable than all of it placed in one bag for washing. So much fun to watch this evolve.

    You’re very clever!
The pockets will keep everything in place and prevent a mess.
Is it okay to steal.. er, I mean copy this idea?
    Thanks for sharing it.
I also like the way your wedding theme works into this project.

Do you have an idea for the final product?

I was very pleased with my little contraption. Seemed a fitting way to use the extra tulle. It’s a little tricky to sew, but well worth the effort. I was making individual tulle “sausages” before, so this saves me lots of time and makes the whole washing process a cinch. Not sure what the final product will be, though I’m thinking a ruana might be nice.

If I remember correctly, sewing on tulle is a bit like sewing air!
Can you post your wedding veil?
    Just curious :-)

A Ruana wrap would be lovely.
