Since I am still learning the ways of this amazing site, I must read up on combining an image with text. But for now, I will add my words this way. I just finished this bamboo scarf, naturally dyed with freeze dried indigo (very cool and easy to use!), in huck. Trying to get a good start on pieces for the December show I do in Newburyport. Also have 2 more bamboo scarves, naturally dyed with cochineal, cochineal overdyed with indigo, and logwood grey, in 8 shaft twill blocks. Will get those pics out soon. Bamboo loves to be dyed!
Thanks Dave! Will give it another go once I have something more to share via photos.
Thanks for everyone’s thoughts. These were somewhat quick scarves to weave so I can price them fairly to sell, with the consideration of the additional time it took for the dyeing.
Freeze dried indigo crystals are a find! They are described as an instant indigo vat. Not having the knowledge or the time to prepare a vat but wanting some indigo bamboo, this was the answer. All natural, it is actually a vat reduced or freeze dried. No mordant needed unless you are overdyeing with the indigo and your other dyestuff requires a mordant. Just plain indigo does not. Very simple to use. The dye bath does have a short life once ready though. The skeined bamboo had 3 dips to achieve the coloring I wanted.
Freeze dried ingio crystals can be ordered from Paradise Fibers, Spokane, WA. Aurora Silk, Portland, OR generally carries them as well but presently seems to be out of stock.

Mmmm, so pretty. What a wonderful color, and the pattern is intriguing. I’ve been wanting to give that a try. Nicely done, Margaret.
Another beauty! I’ve done a bit in huck but I think I want to do more now! I will want to hear more about why it was freeze dried indigo!
Margaret, did you see the guide I made for writing a post: http://nobohandweavers.com/docs/The-NOBO-Handweavers-Website.pdf
When you start a post, add the image, you can add the text right after that. Let me know if I can help to get you going.
Dave
Freeze dried indigo! I know nothing about it, but I already want some. Gorgeous scarves, Margaret.

The combination of that color and that pattern are perfect.
Thanks for the heads up about the freeze dried indigo.
Where do you get that?
Margaret’s show in December is not to be missed
Thank you for the promo on the Dec show Kathie!
